Teeth Whitening Products Over The Counter

Putting toothpaste on a toothbrush. The toothp...
Today, there are many options you can choose from if you want to have whiter teeth and a better smile. The two main categories are in-clinic dental whitening treatments and over-the-counter teeth bleaching products. The first one is fairly expensive, and not many people can afford to pay for this kind of procedure. Teeth whitening products, on the other hand, are relatively affordable and easily accessible at your local drugstores and grocery shops. You can even order these online. However, it is always best to consult with your dentist first before experimenting with different teeth whitening products.

Over-the-counter teeth whitening products are safe as long as they are used according to the manufacturer's instructions. Look for products made by trustworthy and reputable companies. Remember though, that not all expensive products are necessarily of exceptional quality. Trust the brand rather than the price. There are many high-quality teeth whitening products out there that are quite budget-friendly. Also, keep in mind that these products may work well for some but are useless for others.

Teeth whitening strips are an easy-to-use and affordable option if you want a home-based bleaching treatment. These strips contain a compound called hydrogen peroxide, an oxidizing agent that works to remove stains to whiten the teeth. Apply these strips over your teeth and leave them there for up to 30 minutes to get the best results. One potential disadvantage of this system is that you might get an unequal result, because it's possible that the strips could be applied unevenly.

Whitening trays are another effective home-based teeth bleaching alternative. This kit comes with a whitening gel that contains carbamide peroxide, a bleaching agent similar to hydrogen peroxide. You apply the whitening gel on the tray, then you fit the tray in your mouth. This tray is specially fitted so that the gel comes in close contact with your teeth surfaces, allowing the formulation to work effectively.

Another cheap option is using whitening toothpastes. A lot of people use this because it's very cheap and convenient. It costs just a little bit more than the regular toothpaste, and you don't have to do any special preparations because you just have to carry on with your usual toothbrushing routine. However, these products are only good for maintenance, because they're not that effective at actually bleaching your teeth.
These teeth whitening products available on the market contain the same active ingredient, either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. The higher the concentration of this chemical, the more effective it would be in whitening your teeth. However, excessively high concentrations of peroxide are not available commercially, because these are unsafe and can damage your gums and teeth. To reduce the risk of damaging your delicate mouth tissues, you could use a gum guard.

Home-based teeth whitening products are a much cheaper alternative to in-clinic dental treatments, and are just as effective if you are patient and use them consistently. More importantly, they are safe to use, as long as they are used properly.
